Petite Messe Solennelle
Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 6pm
“This little composition…is, alas, the final mortal sin of my old age. A little technique, a little heart, that is all.”
Gioachino Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle is neither little nor entirely solemn. Yet beneath the wit and irony of its title lies one of Rossini’s most personal creations, a work that blends the theatrical brilliance and unforgettable melodies of his comic operas—including extraordinary and virtuosic arias—with an almost uncharacteristic tenderness and spiritual depth. Join Cathedral Choral Society for our performance of this intimate and optimistic reflection on faith and mortality, scored for chorus, soloists, two pianos, and harmonium, which served as Rossini’s final plea for paradise.

Join CCS for holiday favorites both past and present this year, including sing-along carols, jubilant brass, majestic organ, and festive carillon. We’ll also mark the occasion by revisiting some of our favorite commissions from the past five decades—works that have since become seasonal sensations for choirs around the world. Whether this is your first Joy of Christmas or your fiftieth, we cannot wait to ring in the holidays with you!

I, Too, Am America
Sunday, May 16, 2027 at 6pm
I, Too, Am America celebrates the voices that continue to shape our nation’s evolving story. This performance is also the culmination of the “I, Too, Sing America Project,” a multi-year collaboration between Cathedral Choral Society and Heritage Signature Chorale, dedicated to the rich contributions of African Americans to America’s musical culture. This final concert showcases a new generation of Black composers—Michael Abels, John Stoddart, and Jessie Montgomery—through brand-new orchestral commissions and two world premieres.
As the United States concludes its semiquincentennial celebrations, Cathedral Choral Society invites audiences to consider this powerful and challenging music, viewing our nation not as a finished work, but as one whose song is still being written.
