Kathleen Welling’s Bio
Kathleen M. Welling, Deputy Executive Director of Artistic Administration
From classrooms to concert halls to boardrooms, Kathy’s desire to make a difference has always guided her career. She began her career teaching kids to love making music. During those early years, she discovered her passion for working with teams, leading change and maximizing strengths. Most important, she learned that if you can teach middle school boys to love to sing – she can SELL anything she believes in! Kathy is a mission-driven leader with demonstrated excellence and expertise within the education, arts, professional association, nonprofit, and corporate sectors.
Prior to joining CCS, Welling spent a decade at EF Education First working with schools and districts across the United States to enhance and build domestic and international educational travel programs for students and the adults who guide them. Engaging worldwide with cultural institutions, educational partners, and community leaders, her efforts resulted in the re-envisioning of programs, operations, and delivery of content to ensure that young people got to experience the world, first-hand.
While previously working with the National Association for Music Education and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Welling led constituent relations and outreach, as well as spearheaded crucial programs that created strategic alliances and partnerships to influence education policy and practice. As a keynote speaker, workshop leader, and facilitator, Welling has envisioned and produced hundreds of large-scale concerts, conferences, and educational summits around the world.
As a lifelong educator, Welling taught vocal and general music in K-12 schools and served as Director of Music Education Outreach and Adjunct Professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she nurtured future educators and led professional development for practicing educators. She has been a proud singing member of the Cathedral Choral Society alto 2 section for 28 years and has served on the CCS Board of Trustees a number of times. Welling earned a bachelor of music in education from the University of Northern Colorado and a master of music in choral music from Arizona State University.
