Meet Nina Basu

Nina Basu is the Development Coordinator of Cathedral Choral Society. She brings a background that spans professional performance, nonprofit fundraising, and arts administration. Her work is rooted in the belief that the performing arts are a vehicle for societal change, personal expression, and community engagement.

Prior to joining CCS, Nina served as the first Development Associate at The VIVA School of Dance, a tuition-free dance and academic training program for BIPOC dancers in Washington, D.C. As the organization’s sole development staff member, she helped build the CRM infrastructure from the ground up by cleaning 300+ donor profiles and stewarding individual and foundation relationships. She also led logistics for VIVA’s annual Envision Gala and Summer Socials. Earlier, she served as the first administrative assistant at The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia. She also served as Lead Resident Assistant for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Summer Intensive, where she acted as the primary liaison between intensive staff and management. She served over 400 students from across the globe.

As a performer, Nina has appeared with Ballet Hispanico and Dances Patrelles. With Ballet Hispanico, she danced and toured in their production of Evita, which received positive coverage in The New York Times and Broadway World. She has also worked as a Teaching Artist with Brooklyn Ballet, implementing an NYU and Brooklyn Ballet co-designed curriculum that brought ballet to public school students in Brooklyn. Her cohort earned recognition for the highest participation rate in their program year.

Before her career in arts administration, Nina worked as a Research Assistant in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she supported public health research following her graduation from Towson University with a B.S. in Anthropology & Sociology. She brings to CCS a multidisciplinary perspective and a deep personal commitment to the performing arts as a force for community.

In her free time, Nina is an avid member of The Washington Ballet’s Adult Program where she’s danced in two productions choreographed by Artistic Director, Edwaard Liang and Rehearsal Director, Tamás Krisza. She loves the performing arts, and looks forward to providing meaningful, positive contributions to the community of the CCS.
