Et Terra
Washington National Cathedral
Cathedral Choral Society is thrilled to present its final concert of the 2026-27 Season, Et Terra, alongside the National Symphony Orchestra! CCS cannot wait to welcome the NSO back to our beloved venue for the first time since 2005.
Et Terra features both Ludwig van Beethoven’s Mass in C and Antonín Dvořák’s Te Deum, two magnificent works that offer two visions of faith that are as alike as they are different. Dvořák’s Te Deum was originally written to celebrate his American debut, bursting with joy, anticipation, and Dvořák’s devout faith. In contrast, Beethoven’s Mass is full of remarkable tenderness and dramatic power, dedicated far more to humanity itself than to the divine. What brings them together, however, is the way both composers found divinity in the natural world, creating works that are as much rooted in the majesty of the earth as they are offered up to the heavens.
