I, Too, Sing, America: Spirituals Workshop

I, Too, Sing, America: Spirituals Workshop
Saturday, June 4, 2022 1:00PM

The Heritage Signature Chorale and the Cathedral Choral Society are teaming up to create a fun and engaging learning experience around the Negro Spiritual. As part the ongoing I, Too, Sing America Project, this large community event is one that all people, regardless of experience, can
come together to sing and learn about the Spiritual.

The workshop will be led by Heritage Signature Chorale’s Artistic Director Stanley J. Thurston and Michele Fowlin, Artistic Director of the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir.

At noon, the leaders will host a roundtable discussion geared towards conductors that are interested in engaging on topics of performance practice and interpretation.

At 1:00 pm, the workshop – open to the public – will begin. Participants will sing and rehearse several Spirituals throughout the 2-hour session, and will be able to ask questions during an informal talkback following the workshop.

The event will be held at Foundry United Methodist Church, 500 16th St NW, Washington, DC 20036.
