Statement of Intent

The Cathedral Choral Society strongly recommends you seek professional advice to ensure that your financial goals are considered, your tax situation is reviewed, and your planned gift is tailored to your circumstances. The information provided here is for general information purposes only.

About Harmonia Society

The Cathedral Choral Society was founded in 1941 at the beginning of US involvement in World War II. Paul Callaway, founding Music Director, championed the idea of a large symphonic chorus that would welcome the community to come together and sing in the Cathedral. He believed that the Cathedral Choral Society would provide a source of comfort and joy during a time of uncertainty and loss.

Four decades later the Harmonia Society was founded by twenty-two charter members to recognize those who have, with special thought and foresight, included the Cathedral Choral Society in their estate plans. Their wish was to build an endowment that would continue the work begun by this visionary gentleman for generations to come.

What Is Planned Giving?

A planned gift is a means of contributing to a registered non-profit, such as the Cathedral Choral Society, and receiving financial benefits to yourself or to your estate. Planned gifts are often described as leaving a legacy because your gift will make a profound difference for generations to come. A planned gift:

  • Considers personal and family needs
  • Is tailored to your financial situation
  • Is usually made from assets, not current income
  • Is a tax-effective way of giving
  • Enables you to a make difference to an organization close to your heart.

There are a number of ways to make a planned gift. A planned gift can be a gift of life insurance, a bequest in your Will, a gift of securities, a charitable remainder trust, or a charitable gift annuity. With a little financial planning, no matter what your income level is, you can leave a meaningful gift to the Cathedral Choral Society.
